| THE FRASSATI TRAIL IN MARCHE inaugurated May 27, 2001 WHERE: from Cagli to Fonte Avellana (Pesaro-Urbino) TIME: h 13 (only gone in 2-3 stages) ELEVATION DIFFERENCE: climb m 1665; slant m 1236 DIFFICULTY: EE The trail unfolds along the Monte Catria massif, the largest and most fascinating mountain range in the Pesaro-Urbino province, and takes hikers to the hermitage of Fonte Avellana, particularly enchanting in its willful solitude and integration with the mountain environment. The itinerary has the distinguishing feature of constituting a mini-journey of two or three stages; hikers have the option of completing all or only some of them, since overnight shelters - to use them, contact the Special Consortium Company of Catria - can all be reached by car: Rifugio Valpiana and Rifugio Madonna dell'Acquanera. This is a very fascinating place because the church with the hermitage is built on a terraced meadow that dominates the entire wooded valley, enclosed by steep rock walls. |
