| ITALY'S INTERNATIONAL FRASSATI TRAIL inaugurated September 30, 2000 WHERE: in Pollone (Biella) TIME: h 6.30 ELEVATION DIFFERENCE: climb m 1422; slant m 800 DIFFICULTY: E With the hope of extending the "Frassati Trails" network abroad as well, this trail - selected to "represent" Italy - was opened on the sites chosen by the Blessed young man from Turin for many climbs and pilgrimages. The trail (marker D41) starts in Pollone - where the Frassati's beautiful villa, with its many "traces" of Pier Giorgio, can be visited - and climbs, at the foot of mount Mucrone, on the Muanda ridge through the Tracciolino (which can also be reached by car, cutting time by two and a half hours and elevation difference by 910 meters). A rock altar (at 1,980 meters of elevation) marks the end of the trail, which is studded with a series of plaques with thoughts and reflections drawn from Pier Giorgio's "way". For the return trip, the suggestion is to descend to the Oropa sanctuary, reached in two hours following the markers D2 - D33 - D11. |
