THE FRASSATI TRAIL IN TUSCANY
inaugurated July 11, 1999

WHERE: in La Verna (Arezzo)
TIME: h 4
ELEVATION DIFFERENCE: m 85 (low ring); m 154 (high ring)
DIFFICULTY: T

The trail comprises to looping routes within the National Park of Castentine Forests, Mount Falterona and Campigna - all around Mount Penna (2 hrs 30) and towards its peak (1 hr. 30).
It is a wonderful itinerary, able to reveal all the secrets of the "crudo sasso intra Tevero et Arno" (the harsh rock between the Tiber and the Arno rivers) - as Dante called it - immersing the hiker in a world of enchanted beauty: from the imposing cliff of the Chapel of the Stigmata of St. Francis to the monumental forest of the Sanctuary.
The junction between the two rings is the route within the Verna Sanctuary, where hikers can admire the masterpieces of Andrea della Robbia and feel the emotion of walking in the footsteps of St. Francis in the places where his mysticism was sublimated.
